Le comté de Northumberland - « la terre au nord de la rivière Humber » - est un important comté du nord de l'Angleterre qui remonte à l'époque anglo-saxonne. Il succède à l'ancien royaume de Northumbrie dont il n'occupe qu'une portion septentrionale.

Le comté est rattaché à la couronne.Le titre fut créé de nouveau par Richard II d'Angleterre en 1377 en faveur d'Henry Percy (cf Liste des comtes Britaniques).
