Marc Almond

Marc Almond est un chanteur, né le 9 juillet 1957 à Southport en Angleterre.

Il débute sa carrière musicale avec Soft Cell puis Marc and the Mambas en 1983, avec lequel il enregistre notamment deux albums. L'année suivante, il quitte cette formation pour créer the Willing Sinners, qui devient culte en Angleterre. En 1987, il grave son premier album solo Mother First... and Her Five Daughters, suivi de Stars We Are qui remporte un franc succès. En 1990, il enregistre une compilation de reprises de Jacques Brel intitulée Jacques. La même année, il sort Enchanted, puis The Tenement Symphony en 1991. Il revient en 1995 avec Treasure Box puis en 1999 avec Open All Night.

Il devient un chanteur très apprécié dans l'iconographie gay. Les illustrateurs Pierre et Gilles réalisent en 1990 la pochette de l'album Enchanted et la vidéo A Lover Spurned pour le musicien.

Ses compositions ravivent les souvenirs de la génération d'actuels trentenaires et quadras. En France, le nom même de Marc Almond semblerait inconnu. Pourtant son duo I feel love / Johnny, remember me avec Bronski Beat (Jimmy Somerville) le rend incontournable.
