George Sanders, né le 3 juillet 1906 à Saint-Pétersbourg (Russie) est un acteur britannique, qui a partagé sa carrière entre le Royaume-Uni et les États-Unis. Il a remporté l'Oscar du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle pour sa composition de critique raffiné et sarcastique dans All About Eve de Joseph L. Mankiewicz.

Sanders, qui avait si souvent incarné au cinéma les personnages au flegme gentleman et à l'esprit cynique, s'est suicidé le 25 avril 1972 en ingérant un cocktail de Nembutal et de vodka pour abréger les souffrances d'une longue maladie. Il a laissé ce mot pour expliquer son geste :

« Cher Monde, je te quitte parce que je m’ennuie. Je te laisse avec tes soucis. Bonne chance. »
