L'Essex un comté d'Angleterre, Royaume-Uni, nord-est de Londres. Les villes principales de l'Essex (plus de 30.000h) sont: Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford (capitale), Clacton, Colchester, Harlow, Loughton, Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock et Witham.

Le royaume d'Essex était un des sept royaumes de l'Heptarchie anglo-saxonne du VI^e siècle.
